How does it work?

1

Fill out our online form

Our service offers convenient, pharmacist-guided virtual consultations with a licensed pharmacist in Ontario for common minor ailments, limited to treatments authorized for pharmacists to prescribe. Whether it’s managing seasonal allergies or minor skin conditions, our assessments provide accessible, tailored care—no appointment necessary.

2

Wait for your appointment

You will receive a confirmation email once your form is successfully submitted. Following this, the pharmacist will send an additional email with a link to initiate your consultation or contact you via phone within the hour. Please ensure that you are in a quiet, private setting to maintain confidentiality throughout the consultation.

3

Attend your appointment

To ensure the best possible care, please be prepared to share all relevant information about your minor ailment. Providing detailed and accurate information helps the pharmacist thoroughly assess your needs. During your consultation, remember to be respectful toward the pharmacist, as this helps create a focused and effective service experience.

4

Follow-up

The pharmacist will check in with you on a specified date, tailored to your condition, to ensure your symptoms are improving. This follow-up helps confirm that your treatment is effective, and if needed, the pharmacist can recommend further assessment or adjustments to your care.

As pharmacists, we are qualified to prescribe medications for specific minor ailments. These are conditions that are typically short-term and can be effectively treated with a prescription provided by the pharmacist or over-the-counter medications. By assessing your symptoms and needs, we can help you find the right treatment quickly and conveniently, often without the need for a doctor’s appointment.

Here is a list of minor ailments that we can assess and prescribe treatments for:

  • Acne: Clogged pores cause pimples, blackheads, and cysts.
  • Allergic Rhinitis: Allergy-triggered sneezing, itching, and runny nose.
  • Canker Sores: Painful, non-contagious mouth sores.
  • Oral Thrush: Mouth infection with white patches and soreness.
  • Pink Eye: Eye redness and itching from infection or allergy.
  • Eczema: Red, itchy skin from allergies or irritants.
  • Diaper Rash: Skin irritation in the diaper area.
  • Dysmenorrhea: Painful menstrual cramps and bloating.
  • GERD/Heartburn: Acid reflux causing heartburn and discomfort.
  • Hemorrhoids: Swollen, painful rectal veins, often with itching or bleeding.
  • Cold Sores: Contagious, painful blisters around the mouth.
  • Impetigo: Red sores on the face that ooze and crust.
  • Insect Bites and Hives: Red, itchy bumps from bites or allergies.
  • Lyme Disease Prevention: Risk of Lyme disease from tick bites.
  • Musculoskeletal Sprains and Strains: Painful injury to muscles, tendons, or ligaments.
  • Nausea and Vomiting of Pregnancy: Morning sickness in early pregnancy.
  • Pinworms and Threadworms: Intestinal worms causing anal itching at night.
  • UTIs (Females only): Urinary infection causing pain, burning, and frequent urination.
  • Yeast Infection (Females only): Vaginal itching, soreness, and discharge.

The pharmacist will discuss your concerns with you and, based on your needs, may recommend one of the following next steps:

  • Provide a prescription to begin your recommended treatment
  • Advise you to see your family doctor or visit a walk-in clinic
  • Suggest you go to the nearest Emergency Department
  • Recommend self-care options or over-the-counter products, if suitable
  • A smartphone, computer, or tablet with video and microphone capabilities, or a telephone
  • A reliable and secure internet connection
  • An e-mail address (for appointment links and reminders)
  • A private, quiet space for your virtual consultation
  • Your Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) card

Yes, you can book an appointment for a family member! To ensure we have the correct information, please provide their name, contact details, and any relevant health information they may need for the appointment. If there’s anything specific they need assistance with, feel free to let us know in advance so we can make the visit as smooth as possible.

Our goal is to meet all your health and wellness needs. At John & Jack Pharmacy, we offer convenient delivery of your medications right to your door. You also have the flexibility to fill your prescription at any pharmacy of your choice throughout Ontario.
